Whitehat SEO tips for Bloggers

Written on August 20, 2007

The title of this entry could look like a foreign language to some people, so before we begin let me try to explain.

White Hats (like us) are people who use fair and ethical means to achieve high rankings on search engines, you won’t be surprised to learn that Black Hats are people who use any means to get high rankings on search engines. SEO stands for search engine optimisation, and optimisation includes improving the quality and quantity of the pages within your website, and then increasing the number of other relevant sites that find the content on your site interesting enough to link to you.

One of the most important aspects of optimisation is to ensure that the content within your site is kept up to date, relevant, interesting and informative. One of the easiest and most fun ways of doing this is to add a blog to your site. There is no reason to explain what a blog is because you are on one at the moment. However, in case you are interested in learning more here is a link to the wikipedia definition.

So, now you know what the title means, which is a good start. The title is taken from a recent blog entry by Matt Cutts. Matt works for Google, and over the last few years he has been educating us all in the optimisation techniques that Google frown upon. A couple of weeks ago he did a presentation on how to use your blog to improve your ranking on Google. I have embedded the link below to show you how easy it is to embed video into your web pages, and to show how watching video is far more entertaining than reading.

Before you click the start button, download the powerpoint presentation because it does not display well on the video.

I hope you enjoy the show, and if you would like more information on how to add a blog to your site please call me on 0870 756 2828.
