The Real Reason For Buying YouTube
Written on January 26, 2007
Are Google about to make it clearer the real reason they spent $1.65 billion dollars purchasing YouTube last November. As of yesterday Google made it possible to search for YouTube videos through Google Video, in what would seem like the first step to combine YouTube and Google Video. However you can not view a YouTube video through Google Video, you will be re-directed to the YouTube site.
“Over time, Google Video will become even more comprehensive as it evolves into a service where you can search for the world’s online video content, irrespective of where it may be hosted.” A strong statement considering very few of the world’s population know about Google Video, and even fewer would actually use the service to find video content.
Google will have a struggle on their hand to convince people that their first point of call should be Google Video rather than going directly to YouTube.
