If you’re a prankster, then on April fools you might mislead people, tie their shoes together or post a facebook update of something that isn’t true, but if you’re a big player in the digital landscape then these little pranks are just not good enough!

Plenty of the big boys have given us a laugh this morning, and so to spread the giggles, here is our top 5 countdown of April Foolery.

April Fools

In at number 5 is the twitter trending topic #ripnandos. We’re not sure where this hash tag was started but more than a few of us gasped in horror when we first saw it, before we looked at our phone screens and remembered the date! This reached number 2 in UK trending topics pretty quickly and has probably been shaking up chicken devotees all morning!

At number 4 is Groupon’s stunt which capitalises on the Royal Wedding Fever. Their latest ‘deal’ was a trip to the big day for the bargain sum of £8, including a glass of house wine, entry to the after party and a guided tour from Prince Phillip. Our fave bit of the deal? The fact the small print includes the condition of ‘no whooping’.

Number 3 is courtesy of those naughty scamps at Google, who’ve been messing with the fonts. One of several Google April Fools, if you search for ‘Helvetica’ the results appear in the font of comic sans, which we think is quirky and quite impressive, so no wonder it went viral pretty quickly.

Video giant YouTube comes in at number 2 with their ’100 Year Celebrations’, and they really have gone the whole hog. They aren’t just saying ‘hurrah we’re 100′ (which in itself would be quite funny) they’ve also made a montage of the top 5 viral videos in 1911 and have done a 1911 sepia version of each video too, both of which are definitely rib tickling.

And in the number one spot we have Google again, with their hilarious Google Motion release. This ‘new development’ claims to allow you to send your mail without using mouse or keyboard, using a range of actions, with the video featuring a very amusing demonstration and ‘movement specialist’. We’re not sure whether we find the action for ‘send’ or the move for ‘Yours Sincerely’ more hilarious, but we can definitely say this made our April Fools. Go watch it, you won’t be disappointed!

Honourable mentions also go to Think Geek’s Apple Playmobil set and Talk Talk’s social network for dogs!
