5 Instant things you can do to improve traffic to your website

Written on November 21, 2007

  1. Ensure your staff know about it! Although this might sound stupid think about how many times you ring a company and ask what their web address is, or even the number of many times they tell you their email address, or you get a silence whilst they scrabble around looking for it.

So make sure everyone knows your website, about how important it is to your organisation and ensure that all new employees are told about it.

  2. Shout about it on everything you do ensuring you promote it prominently on all your marketing material. The number of companies who invest large amounts of money on websites and then don’t even put the details on their press advertising is astonishing.

It should be on every thing you do: vans; staff livery; letterheads; invoices; even on the windows of your shopfront if you have one! Make sure you can promote it wherever you can - the more imaginative the better!

  3. Advertise your online shop. If you are a store and have a website that your customers can shop from too remember to put a notice in the window about how you can always buy from us 24/7 on www.etc.co.uk.
  4. The average caller to a business is put on hold for 20 seconds, so make use of that time. This is the perfect opportunity to tell them about your website: you can give them the website address, tell them what kind of things they can do on it and how easy it is to use.
  5. Make sure all your company email signatures also include a call to action to your website. So rather than just putting the address, give them a reason for going there such as: p.s. if you haven’t already visited our website, check it out on www.etc.co.uk to find out more about our great offers!
