Harnessing the Power of Eye-Tracking

We came across a great case study last week about how Eye Tracking helped one company in Toronto create a study into how users viewed search results on Google Places. Using the Tobii eye tracking machine they used eye tracking to determine the gaze of the user and where they clicked to develop a white paper displaying information about which ads grabbed higher attention from the users.

From the study they were able to determine that as well as the importance of displaying as number one in search results, certain social signs were also having an affect on where users clicked within the results.

At Prodo Digital we have used Eye Tracking in many ways to make sure we get the best out of anything displayed to a user. Eye Tracking allows us to observe thought processes not recognised by the user and consequently are not vocalised, giving you an even deeper insight into your users. The results are objective, unbiased and quantifiable.

Countess Of Chester Hospital Site Goes Live

The Countess of Chester approached Prodo Digital to create their main Trust website following the completion of the Chester Breast Screening site. The COCH's new website needed to be accessible to all, ensuring that it was easy for the general public to navigate around and find the information which they required. The Trust was also keen to ensure the website was AA compliant in line with NHS Guidelines.

All objectives were initially met at design stage, the layout created was clean and simplistic, directing visitors to one of two areas of the website 'Corporate' and 'Patients, Visitors and Public'. Each area was given their own landing page with relevant sections highlighted including any video content.

The wealth of content has been uniformly displayed and each page has the ability to add links, imagery and select from a number of templates making it easy to administer and manage. With various permission levels included, the COCH can now control who has publishing rights and successfully manage all content published to their site.

The end result…a very happy client!

A Further Look Into Facebook's Recent Changes

Whilst we are waiting for Facebook to role out it's new timeline, we've put this handy presentation together to give you a summary of how the changes can affect the way data is viewed on your page.

You may need to turn up your volume to hear video content. Use the arrows to navigate through the presentation. Best viewed in full screen.

Google Changes 'Attractions' Search

Google search has changed the way it displays it's results to users when searching with the name of a location. For example, when searching for "Attractions Chester" Google used to return sites such as http://www.visitchester.com ranked above the various attractions, but now you will start to see locations appearing in search results with information about reviews and transport.

Below shows a screenshot of how a search for "Chester attractions" will now appear;

Google now gives you the opportunity to see up to 10 locations from a city like Chester. Hovering over these locations will then display information such as opening times, transport, links to directions and even reviews by other Google users.

Optimising your business' place page is becoming increasingly important to feature in Google's place listing. We found this great guide here:  http://seogadget.co.uk/how-to-maximise-your-chances-of-a-better-local-ranking/.

Ultimately though we can't help but feel all these changes are being made to increase the chances of people paying for the privilege to appear within Google's local search listing in the near future.

Google + Launches Branded Pages

Yesterday evening Google Plus launched their branded pages for use. Google Plus branded pages allow companies to build profiles to showcase their work, release snippets about work, or even just use it as a tool to interact with clients, collegues and business partners. Within your Plus account you can add people to Circles allowing you to group certain audiences to target more important and relevant information to them.

Setting up your account could not be easier, navigate to your personal Google Plus account now, and click the link on the right hand side 'Create a Google+ page' to get started. You can start your new Google+ journey by adding Prodo Digital to one of your circles.

Check out the video from Google below showcasing the use of Google Plus and it's pages.
