SMS for SMEs?

09 Nov 2008

As many have predicted SMS text message marketing seems to be going from strength to strength. A recent survey from Limbo showed that a third more people knew about text message marketing that recorded nine months previously.

The Mobile Advertising Report has also strengthened these results by announcing that just under four out of every ten people in the USA can remember receiving adverts on their mobile in the three month period between July and September 2008.

As for the UK, a number of mobile phone specialists have said that mobile phones are experiencing a great ‘leap’ forward which could help encourage more varied use and make users more likely to respond to adverts. The rise of social networking has also contributed to this as consumers often access social media sites through their mobile.

In fact, mobile banking is now also becoming popular with mobile users with over 30,000 people using mobile banking with HSBC alone.

As mobile phones have become more interactive, reliable and trustworthy, this could mean that SMS text message marketing could now be more effective as more consumers will have a positive reaction to these adverts.

SMS text message marketing is also incredibly cost-effective, so I’m sure we will see more small businesses moving towards this technique during the end of the year and throughout 2009.
